Comic lab podcast

Recently I dove back into the Comic lab podcast.  Comic lab is hosted by Brad Guigar of Evil Inc. and Dave Kellett of Sheldon fame.  It’s a podcast about making webtoons, the passion for being a cartoonist, and the many tips and tricks shared within a growing community of love and support for the arts.  I’ve gleaned a lot from both of them and the guests they’ve had on over the years.

By chance

Back in the day I used to listen to Webcomics Weekly.  Once that podcast ended there was a void for a few years in that community until Comic lab was spun off to continue in a similar fashion.  During the lapse of not listening to web comic genius I tried a few game podcasts and even listened to Stuff you should know for a while.  I was relieved when Brad and Dave came back with Comic Lab, which has continued far longer than the Webcomics Weekly.  Brad and Dave have helped guide me through the process of refocusing on Dragin.  I’ve learned how to reach out on social media, put a book together, even how to structure comics in an engaging way.  Also branding and merchandising options I didn’t even know about.  They have helped me expand Dragin’s reach past the web.

Earlier times

Brad and Dave’s discussions on their careers as cartoonists take me back to earlier times.  I remember the pizzeria I would visit with cartoonists and mentors.  They were members of the National Cartoonist Group.  We would share ideas and achievements over pizza and bread sticks.  I learned a lot from the group.  They were the foundation for where I am now.  That is what the Comic Lab podcast helps me remember.  How important the passion for cartooning is.  How connected people can become.  I feel very fortunate I’m able to share these influences with a larger audience.  Thank you for joining me on this journey.  Stick around to find out what happens next.
